Information about the REAL ID

Starting May 7, 2025, travelers aged 18 and older will need a REAL ID-compliant document to fly domestically. Acceptable documents include state-issued driver's license or ID cards with the REAL ID marking (a star or similar), or alternative forms of identification like a valid passport.

To get a REAL ID, you must visit your local DMV and provide the documents required for this. It can take about 2 weeks or 15 business days to process this. Plan now to get your REAL ID if you want to fly domestically.

Chilkoot Lake Canoeing

Day Trip, Group Tour
Offer Image
A motor-assisted voyageur canoe journey awaits you on the gorgeous Chilkoot Lake, where you will be amazed at Alaska's striking beauty. Relax, take photos, and search for wildlife in the inlets and coves on this impressive adventure.

Chilkoot Lake Canoeing

Explore the wildlife and pristine beauty of Chilkoot Lake in Haines, Alaska. The lake is in the Tlingit region of Alaska, and its name means "big fish."

Meet your guide directly on the pier and depart by van for a short transfer to a small boat harbor. Catch a fast ferry from here and ride for approximately one hour to Haines, and listen to live presentations about local culture and natural history along the way.

Once in Haines you will take a guided driving tour through the town and Fort Seward. After approximately 30 minutes, the drive leads you up the Lutak Inlet to the Chilkoot River Valley. The Chilkoot corridor offers incredible wildlife viewing. Brown Bears, eagles, mountain goats, and spawning salmon are commons sights. Your guides are expert naturalists and enjoy sharing their love and knowledge of the Alaskan wilderness.

Once at the lake, you'll head out in stable motor assisted voyageur canoes. The canoes are built using similar dimensions as the canoes used by trappers and gold miners at the turn of the century. Powered by either paddle or motor, this Skagway tour offers guests the opportunity to paddle in the serenity of Chilkoot Lake, while also having the advantage of relaxing and taking photographs when it's time to take a break from paddling.

Explore for approximately 2 hours and see the inlets, coves, salmon spawning streams, and numerous waterfalls that spill off the mountains into the lake.

After enjoying the beautiful views on the lake, drive back along the coast to a private beachside location for a picnic-style lunch.

From here it is only a short ride from the beach to return to the fast ferry dock. Make your way across the water returning to Skagway Alaska, where your van will be waiting to take you to your cruise ship.
